Celebrating a Legend: Ben Swift Retires

18 Years in the Pro Peloton

After an extraordinary 18-year career at the absolute pinnacle of professional cycling, our long-time global brand ambassador and friend, Ben Swift, has announced his retirement at the end of the 2026 season. Yes, the 2026 Tour of Britain was his last pro race, and the crowds turned out to celebrate with him.

From pulling on the iconic British National Champion stripes on the road to conquering the velodrome as the 2012 Scratch Race World Champion and a multi-time World Championship medallist on the track, Swifty has personified resilience, class, and ultimate professionalism. For nearly two decades, he has been a mainstay of elite cycling, finishing his illustrious career exactly where he wanted—on his own terms, riding hard for Netcompany INEOS, and bidding farewell on home roads.

Ben Swift Riding

A Partnership Built on Ultimate Performance

At Lake, our relationship with Ben has always been about more than just logos or sponsorships. Pro riders spend upwards of 30 hours a week pushing their bodies to the absolute limit, and no piece of gear is more critical than the connection between the rider and the pedal. It’s the foundation for creating the perfect ride, and Ben understood this implicitly. Working with him and talking through his cycling needs, Ben has always been deeply concerned and focused on the importance of comfortable cycling footwear.

Ben chose Lake because he demanded zero compromises when it came to fit, power transfer, and comfort. Whether navigating the brutal, rain-soaked cobbles of the Spring Classics, sprinting on the boards of the world's fast tracks, or surviving three-week Grand Tours, he relied on our shoes to keep him performing at his peak, and we relied on the professional feedback that Ben always gave.

As a global ambassador, Ben didn't just wear our shoes; he helped us refine them. His real-world feedback from the highest level of elite racing has been invaluable to our design team, ensuring that the same technology keeping a World Tour veteran comfortable over a 250km monument is built into every pair of shoes we create for you.

Ben Swift at the finish line

Swift on all surfaces – the next chapter

I recall watching Ben at the 2025 National Gravel Biking Championships at Dalby Forest, where he came in second to team-mate and cousin, Connor Swift. His focus, bike control and desire to win was evident, as he pushed the bike to its limits on the dusty champagne gravel of Dalby.

While the pro peloton is losing one of its most respected and versatile riders, the cycling community certainly isn't losing Ben. As he hangs up his race numbers, he’ll no doubt be trying his hand – and his feet – and something new and challenging. He’s not the sort of athlete to sit still for long. And all of us here at Lake want to thank him for the countless memories, the thrilling sprints, and his unwavering dedication to the sport.

Ben was always the supreme team rider, working for others on the hardest routes in the cycling world. I’d say he deserves a longer café stop! Everyone at Lake Cycling is incredibly proud to have been a part of Ben's journey. We wish him, his family, and his team the absolute best as he steps into his next chapter.

Thank you, Swifty. It’s been an incredible ride.
