TX224 – Taking triathlon to new performance levels

Maximising transition performance
Lake has a long history in triathlon shoes – in fact, longer than anyone else. Yes, we’ve led the way in designing and creating the most comfortable and high-performance triathlon shoes since 1985, when we created the world’s very first pure Tri shoe, worn by Mark Allen. In doing so we changed the perception of what’s fast for a triathlete, and how footwear can become a critical element of the triathlete’s kit bag. Our all-new TX224 builds on 40 years of experience and insights from triathletes worldwide to bring you what we believe is the best fitting, most breathable, fast-drying, and quick-transitioning triathlon shoe.
The TX224 has taken a new approach to how Triathlon shoes function by not sacrificing comfort and adjustability for fast entry/exit. We know how vital those transition seconds are, which is why our unique design in the new TX224 allows for superior adjustment and a familiarity of a closure system that runners will appreciate. We also know that comfort equals performance, which is why the Lake TX224 is the perfect combination of technically advanced upper materials, a secure closure system and an ultralight and stiff carbon sole to maximise performance in the ultimate multi-sport event – triathlon. It’s time to take a look at the all-new Lake TX224 Triathlon shoe, and to see why we believe that it’s the ultimate in technical performance shoes for triathletes.

In triathlon, speed is your friend
Rapid fitting and fastening equals rapid transition, and the new Lake TX224 has taken a new approach to how Triathlon shoes function by not sacrificing necessary comfort, whilst giving you increased adjustability for fast entry/exit. We looked at every aspect of the transition when creating the TX224, as we wanted to ensure that as you head into the transition zone, you can be confident in the speed of the fit and the all-around comfort of the shoe once secured. The fastening system chosen is one that runners will recognize, utilizing a single hook and loop strap with speed laces, to maximize every second of racing and to minimize delays.
We know that triathlon transition zones can be a high-intensity and stressful place, which is why the familiarity of the speed laces, simplifying the closure system and wrapping the foot neatly in race mode, with the added benefit of the Velcro strapping will help to maintain that all-important psychological confidence, whilst also providing you with a triathlon shoe that wraps your feet like a second skin. The new speed lace system is quick and easy to secure, wrapping the extended mesh upper around the foot and maximising air – vital when you get out of the water - to keep your feet fresh and ahead of the game as you head out onto the bike. What’s unique about the system is once the speed lace is dialled into your optimized fit, it is released and closed by the power strap.

Power and performance come from ultimate comfort
Every second counts when competing, and our Lake 100% carbon fiber sole, combined with a reinforced, low-cut heel cup and a secure toe box on the new TX224, is designed to keep your foot securely in place. The extra stability and comfort provided deliver the ultimate power transfer to maximize your performance. The carbon fiber sole also features replaceable heel pads and is available in a 3-hole cleat pattern. We’ve also added a sleek yet substantial rubber toe bumper to the front of the shoe for long-term protection against knocks and bumps in the heat of competition.
No other cycling shoe brand currently delivers a more comprehensive selection of cycling shoe shapes and widths than Lake. When creating the TX224, we decided to utilise this expertise to deliver a unique technical triathlon shoe in 3 distinct Last shapes and widths – it’s an industry first, as Lake continues to lead the way in cycling shoe innovation and excellence. We know how individual you are, and we wanted to ensure that whatever your foot shape, Lake has the perfect fit for you as a triathlete. For Narrow volume feet, the Race Last is the correct choice, Mid-size feet the Competition Last and for larger volume feet or barefoot shoe fans the Comfort Plus Last is the perfect solution. Best of all, if you take a particular Last shape in other Lake cycling shoes, you’ll be reassured to find the same fit where the Last matches one of the 3 Last options for the new TX224.

Performance and style in harmony, for ultimate comfort
In an event such as Triathlon, where you’re running towards transition with wet feet, the upper of the shoe needs to have the right design and technical elements to help to hold your feet, whilst also aiding the drying process and not rubbing the skin. The TX224 has a Clarino Microfiber upper with NuFOAM™ breathable, wicking shell with Trek-Dry antimicrobial liner and a heel-side mounted elastic rubber band holder for setting the shoe up for fast transitions. NuFoam’s unique design works in a way that keeps your foot feeling cool and dry.The innermost layer of the NuFoam package is Trek-Dry antimicrobial & wicking fabric made from carbonized bamboo. The Trek-dry draws moisture away from the foot towards the surface of the shoe. The middle layer of the Nufoam package is a 2mm closed cell perforated foam that works as a spacer to allow air to flow into the shoe, thus creating evaporation and maximizing comfort. This process works as a cooling system, with the evaporating moisture helping to cool the foot down, while also keeping it dry as you head towards the next transition.
Coming in a classically stylish white and black cycling shoe color tone, the all-new TX224 is a sleek and modern, yet functional triathlon shoe, designed with several technical developments to deliver you the ultimate in comfort, performance and style – all in perfect balance. There are no short-cuts in triathlons and the new Lake TX224 ensures that all your effort is transferred into time-saving transitions, whilst delivering ultimate comfort and performance for this ultimate sporting event – triathlon.
